hello world.
I'm setting this up so that I can keep you, the reader, informed while I'm in China. For anyone reading this that doesn't know me, let me tell you a little bit about my self.
My name is Steven Charles Grant. I'm from the good ol Eastern Shore. I live in Salisbury, MD. I'm not really a hick, but I'm definitely a country boy. I go to school outside Pittsburgh at Geneva College. I'm studying Secondary Math Education and I love it. To kill time, you can find me listening to music, cooking, playing paintball, on the beach, or on my boat. My friends are a huge part of my life and I don't know where I would be without them. That's about it for me.
As stated earlier, the purpose in me setting up this blog is to have a way to share my experience of going to China with the world. I don't know how much I'll be able to update, but hopefully often.
I guess that's about it for now. Here's a little bit about where I'm going:
Guangxi Nationals University Att. Middle School
Da xue Road
Nanning, Guangxi 530006
People’s Republic of China
School
The school was founded in 1952 and is located on the beautiful campus of Guangxi University for Nationalities. The college campus is gorgeous, with a lake at the center, lots of trees and shrubs and winding paths and roads. The middle school is on the edge of the campus and shares the university’s facilities when required. They have standard Chinese classes, with windows on both sides, blackboards front and back, ceiling fans, and a TV set in each room. Most of the students have never had a foreign teacher or even met a foreigner before.
Living Facilities
The team will live in the facilities for foreigners on the university campus. Each room has western toilets, hot water heaters, AC, desks, and a phone. There is a larger suite for the team leader which has a large meeting room attached. There are laundry facilities just a few hundred feet from the apartments. The apartments are about a 12-minute walk from the middle school directly across the campus. The team will eat most of their meals at the middle school campus.
Location
Nanning is the capital of Guangxi –Zhuang Autonomous Region (AR) in southwest China. Nanning is surrounded by mountains with an average elevation of 300 feet. The population is 3 million and the main nationalities are Han, Zhuang, Miao, Yao, Dong, Mulao, and Maonan. The average temperature in the summer is 88 degrees. Local highlights include the dragon boat races.
